some reminders:

if you’re citing sources in your writing, please hyperlink your source material as a way of citations. NOTE: if your source cannot be hyperlinked (a physical copy of a book, or a PDF, for example), please refer to the title and author in your writing so  sources can be properly given credit

– we are not tolerant of any hate speech (racism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, etc) or discussion of topics that are presented to alienate different groups of people. don’t do that shit.

how it works:

  1. write. for pieces that include research, make sure to cite all your sources in prose and include a backlink. if the source is not able to be linked (for example, it’s a printed material), make sure to cite the text and author’s name in your writing.
  2. share your piece on a google doc with grainofsaltmag@gmail.com. make sure your share settings are open to “anyone with a link.”wait to hear back from us with an update about your submission.
  3. if your piece is accepted, our editorial director will communicate important information to start our editorial process! our editorial process is an in-depth collaborative process with our content editors and copy editors in order to prepare it for publication. edits may include notes about structure, verbiage, sourcing, research, or anything else we think is necessary to make the piece the absolute best it can be!
  4. if your piece is not accepted, don’t be discouraged! you are more than welcome to submit to grain of salt mag again.

faq:

do i have to pitch my piece idea first in order to submit?

grain of salt mag has an open submissions process, so you do not have to pitch to us if you are sharing original art of writing. all you have to do is create your piece and submit it to be considered for publication!

can i submit work that has been published elsewhere?

yes, as long as the other publication allows writers to re-publish their pieces elsewhere.

can i submit work that i’ve published with grain of salt mag to other publications?

yes, as long as a note is included at the end of the piece sharing that it was originally published with us, and if applicable, includes a link to your work on our website.
